  • How deep to plant lettuce please?

    Cut and come varieties:
Would a container of 10cm deep be enough?

And how about spinach? How deep should the container be to get a reasonable crop?

This is my first year of growing and I might have got a bit carried away with the sowing. Now running out of space and have to be creative with the sort of container I can use as I don't fancy spending much more on pots/containers.

Spinach will bolt in pots don't bother...but if you can squeeze it in somewhere a bit shaded it may do OK. It is best sown direct in early spring and early aytumn. Spinach beet is much easier.

Lettuce should be ok in a pot but needs a saucer underneath to keep it moist, again somewhere a bit cool and shady shoud delay it bolting.

      The spinach variety is Medania.

They are about 4" tall, I shall plant them straight into the ground today.

Thanks very much for the advice Paul.
