am i the only one who thought that there was going to actually be a tv channel dedicated to gardening? i was pretty dissapointed to discover that it is just a 30min show every 2weeks!
dont get me wrong, because im greatful for any gardening shows, especially ones about growing your own, but i was just hoping for more. did anyone else see it. what did you think?

I thought it was a bit lame myself - not sure it's worth watching.

I think it just needs to be given time and taken for what it is - that is to say, not led by professional TV presenters.

I read the interview on it in AG, it shows promise but it may never (probably) be polished. I think of it as the very early gardening programmes appeared on TV - Percy Throwerish

I actually quite enjoyed it. It was good to see "ordinary" people like me showing the passion they have for growing and cooking their own fruit and veg.

I think i need to reiterate what i said on a previous post as i think it is important that we as growers try and encourage as much as possible any programme that is aimed at us as a market because if there is no interest shown then the level of programming will not increase.

I thought they were cramming in too much for 30 mins, but i understand why, all of us are looking for different things in a programme and they are hoping to have something for everyone, maybe it would be easier in an 60 minute format. The gentleman explaining no dig was interesting, but as the programme was too short, he did not explain how to do it (you had to go online to see the full interview, which is ok, but defeats the object of watching the programme on tv rather than watching the programme online).

I support the channel and hope that they get to increase their programming. We have all been moaning for ages that there is nothing for us, so i think that we should all support what there is and hope that those in control notcie and increase the programming choice.

Well done horticultural channel, i lookforward to the next episode.

I think it is very easy to be critical, but think of the alternative........nothing

I am not being critical when it is bits and bobs of not very much. They never explained no dig system properly or fully (so agree there), the chicken advice was incorrect - giving raw peelings, growing in toilet rolls is not for everyone (what happens to the glue in your soil? much prefer looking through books/forums for ideas). To keep an audience they have got to make the programme longer or tackle two to three subjects for longer periods.
It holds no interest for me as is - sorry but it doesn't! You can get better on YouTube.

I have to agree that the chicken info was wrong, we have chooks and would never dream of giving them peelings, we only give them layers and then scraps as an afternnon treat.

But I hope that I am making a good point in stating that there is too few programmes on television regarding gardening and growing your own, especially as it is meant to be a bit of a fashion and the waiting lists for allotment holders is so long, ergo there must be a demand for this type of programming. The company is trying their toe in the water, and as i stated, the programme is too short to cram in all they need to cram in, but hopefully with some support, it can grow into a credible and informative programme. It is only their first episode, and i am going to give it a chance.

i have to agree, your points are truly valid and i think most of us do agree with you. I just hope that the programme makers are noting the forums and take up our points.

I was expecting much more than this product and I obviously misinterpreted channel as meaning all the 402 channel on freesat rather than a once a week programme repeated about 3 times.
I was expecting repeats of gardening programmes - just like the Time Team repeats -good background viewing and well produced.
I'll still have a quick look each week but I'm not impressed.

I have just copied this from the Info Channel website

'Information TV is a young but firmly established and award-winning broadcast TV services business, operating on digital satellite (BSkyB and Freesat), digital terrestrial (Freeview) and via broadband on the internet. If you want to use broadcast TV - whether to acquire and launch a dedicated 24/7 channel; to reach a niche audience; to pilot and then grow a new commercial proposition; or simply to communicate and interact with your own target audience - we can make it happen.'

This seems to be a 'toe in the water' type channel and is used by NHS, Asda and other niche subjects. Since the presenters are amateurs I am guessing there is not much money behind the HC but support from us will, perhaps, encourage more money. More money means more programmes and better range of subjects. If something is wrong with an item shown, email them, they are asking for input from the viewers.

I enjoyed it for what it was and look forward to seeing the fortnightly programmes.
