  • Help! Ripening sweet peppers!

    Hi all,

Can anyone offer any advice on how I can ripen my sweet 'red' peppers. I have loads of big shiny green peppers on my bushes, but I've been waiting for weeks and they're not going red.

Bit worried that they're going to die now that the temperatures are plummeting. BBC and RHS don't seem to offer any practical advice on this.

    Any advice or insights appreciated!

Hi Chillimonkeys, welcome to the Vine.

Several people have been asking things like this recently, for example:

Have a look at that, although there isn't much you can do. Also remember, the Search button is your friend

If they are in pots then bringing them inside is the best option.

        Thanks HotStuff and Tamsin,

Think I'll give them until the end of the week and then relent and either eat them green or move inside (my kitchen's starting to look a bit like a forest)!

          Hi Chillymonkeys
If you take them off the plant, stick them in the fridge with a ripening banana, they will ripen up pretty quickly. Mine turned red this way in a couple of days.
