  • Help with Broad Beans.

    hi

This is the first year we have grow any veg, we planted some broad beans in Nov and they seem to be doing really well ( see photo). This week we noticed little white fly's, when we move the plant they fly away.
Are they anything to worry about, we have had a look at the plants and cant see anything on the plants.

Please can we have some advice?

They are probably whitefly. Not normally anything to worry about for broadies.

The ones to watch out for with broad beans are blackfly. They cluster at the tops of the plants so many people will tell you to nip out the tops, once you have flowers all the way up the stem (as you seem to from the photo.) No need to waste the tops - you can boil or steam and eat those too!

Looking good there, my broadies are nowhere near flowering yet, only about 8" tall
