The haunted seed! No head but still trying to grow!

never tried it myself but,could you have found the way to sow early,and not get leggy plant,but stronger ones,i would just leave it an see,after all,if you take a leaf of that will send out shoots won't it,

Hi

I don't think it will grow if it has no 'joint' for the leaves to grow from. They soon lose their husk on their own - I usually only take them off when they are hanging off completely!

I'd nip it out and leave the stronger ones to grow on.

Poor headless seedling... I always end up with at least one like that, doesn't mater how much I tell myself to leave the seed casings alone

Put the poor thing out of it's misery, even if it does manage to produce leaves it'll be weird and stunted for the rest of it's life.

To be honest I thought it would have died already, this is the first time I have ever removed any seed husks, never had this problem in the past, 1st time with these these black cherry ones, They did appear to take longer to get rid of the husk, than others that germinated after them! confused: The others need potting on anyway I need to do them asap I migh just leave the spooky headles one and see what happens LOL

I was thinking along the same lines but on the other hand I'm interested to see what happens now!

dont laugh, but i have a seedling doing the same, sadly it is the only one of the 3 chocolate habenero seeds Zazen99 sent me, that germinated, its still standing, but no leaves............make way for the headless chiili plant????

I've had it happen - often with expensive F1 hybrids - Berry was a beggar for it in my experience. Sometimes if you wet your finger and thumb and gently tough them either side of the 'stuck' seed it will manage to burst free. You need to do it several times a day for a day or two. If it still doesn't come off, don't lever it off, you'll just remove the growing point too and the thing will hang around there for ages but never grow.

i have 2 tomatoes that have actually come up without heads ..... no leaves at all .... and i had a leek that grew upside down (roots waving in the air) ....... none of mine are dead yet either

I don't think I've got any left either...I didn't see last night when I was sifting through all my chilli seeds - sorry....

Thanks Auntie Flume I did wet my fingers and let some water drip on the seed husk but only did it the once, as I tried to give it a gentle rub the head just Came off! The rest isd hystory!

I have a few Chock Habs still I can let Bride have a couple not sure how many I have left so far only one of mine camu up since Jan 22 so i'm looking to try another 1 or 2as well!

Have never known headless seedlings to sprout new leaves but then there is a first time for everything, or so I'm told.
