    Hanging Gardens

    Its raining and I've been tidying my carrier bag collection Don't laugh, everyone needs a hobby
    I have lots of those blue bags from the Swedish shop - they come in 3 sizes.
    With the little ones, that have a base a bit smaller than A4, I'm wondering about planting strawberries and tumbling toms in them and threading the handles over a horizontal pole (like a broom handle) resting on some sort of support at each end. Each bag would be out of slugs' reach.
    A sort of flying raised bed
    What does the Team think?

    I think a broom handle won't be strong enough. But otherwise, nice idea!

      I think the bag would rot quite quickly. I use them for collecting greenery for flower arranging. They don't seem to last long

        Maybe if I kept the plants in a pot in the bag - then, if the bag rots, I could remove the pot and start again.

          Not going to help with your glut of bags but macrame is your friend!!!

            I remember having one of those with a big bottle garden in it
            But, as you say, no help with my carrier bag glut

              I was just trying to "rope" you into a new hobby, honestly I wasn't trying to "string" you a line! So don't get the "hemp"!

              You could always cut your bags into strips and plait them into ropes before macrame-ing them into a hanging garden!!!

                    I was caught in the rain while out for a walk early this morning, but had a trusty plastic carrier bag in my pocket. A very 'andy 'at it was. Somehow, if your head's dry, the rest of you doesn't matter so much
                    Of course, I had nothing to fetch home blackberries in, but it's no fun picking them in the rain anyway...

                      As a try out for the weight baring of a broom handle,put an appropriate amount of soil or sumat in ordinary carrier bags and hang up just to see how things perform,this will give you an idea if it will,another point is,will the wood handle bow in the wet,gave you any nice sized branches of the trees,or any metal that is stronge enough,or either buy or fashion some hanging brackets,

                        Truth is Lottie, I don't 'ave a broom 'andle - it was just to give an idea of how it might work (or not!).
                        Did think about hanging them from the trees but they might swing about a bit too much and the squirrels would be there in a flash

                          You will also have to rename your produce if they are in Swedish bags, Tumbler tomatoes could be Sventomiefloppen.

                          I like the idea providing you don't have to queue for hours to pick the produce.
