  • Growing the taste of Christmas

Having bought reduced price blueberries, sharon fruit and grapefruit yesterday, I'm going to save the seeds and try to grow them. I'll also buy some cranberries and pomegranate and give those a go too. Maybe I'll be selfsufficient in these by next Christmas!!

I love the title of this thread - I was curious as to whether you used any or all of the fruit in cooked dishes?

I too went for the reduced fruit at the supermarket - very good value. On the day I just did a mixed fresh fruit salad with vanilla yoghurt to top it, topped again with raspberry coulis* which I'd prepared in summer from rasps in the garden. Everyone else had the fruit salad with ice cream, I took mine with a bit of Christmas pud.

Other tastes of Christmas home-grown was the Apple and Courgette chutney.

The blueberries and persimmon (sharon fruit) are still in the fridge! I'll probably eat them fresh, not cooked anyway.I have pomegranate seeds drying and the top leaves of a pineapple will be planted. I'm saving the grapefruit and clementine seeds as I eat the fruit and they'll be planted too. I missed out on the cranberries - must look out for some to add to my collection!
Your fruit sounds good - even the coulis!

I got given the jimmy wotsit book, thought this was about that, didn't know blueberries were in season now? Although I picked my last raspberry on Christmas Day this year

The Blueberries are from Chile (variety Star) as sold by Morrisons. Star Blueberry Plant
I've been eating them as I type but having difficulty finding any seeds! They must be in there somewhere.
