I always grow Rusty (it self-seeds now). It is superb: stands outside all winter, then gets away in the spring. Pretty dark red colour, crispy leaves. The early spring growth is a bit prone to greenfly, but just wash them off with a can of water, or squish.

It is just starting to bolt now, in June. Lovely

I've always grown Winter Density - it's a good doer for me. However, this year, on joining the Heritage Seed Library, I received a packet of Stoke lettuce. This is like a small cos and very hardy. I've still got a few growing outside. I will certainly sow this again.

Have been impressed with sherwood this year. Don't know how it will stand up to the winter but am going to give it a trial this winter.

Winter Density has to be a great all rounder, robust, crisp delish!
