  • Goosberry please help

I planted 4 gooseberry bushes on my allotment in october 1 of them is sending out green shoots (started a couple of weeks ago) and is looking healthy, the other 3 look like they are doing nothing. I scratched one of the branches and there was no greeness inside. My question is are they likely to be dead or are they still dormant, when should gooseberries start sending out the green shoots. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I have some young bushes and cuttings in my polytunnel and these have just started to produce their first leaves - I have about twenty bushes outside - no leaves showing at all. I'd be slightly concerned about the lack of green wood when you scratched the branch, but give them a while yet.

i have 4 and a cutting all out side one is starting to wake up the cutting is getting leaves and the other 3 havent done anything yet was worried like you so got out the pruners and trimmed the end of a branch just on one about 0.5 cm got green wood so there fine, have noticed that the one waking up and the cutting are more sheltered from the wind so maybe thats why, im in the midlands if your further north expect to be a few weeks slower than mine.
