Which is good to sow in august?

I am going to do Chinese radish soon and cos lettuce.

Is there any types of beetroot that are okay to do outdoors in august?

I think that the last sowing of beetroot is the end of July so I wouldn't get too far into August before you sow it. You could still sow some spring cabbage .

I was just wondering if there are any that do alright in August, I should sow before august. I wanted to grow the large yellow type but it said no sow no later than June.

Can spring cabbage withstand the winter and frost? Would they need some form of protection?

      Thanks
      Nick

Not sure on the beetroot but the spring cabbage will sit over winter but you need to get it in before the frosts start. It should then start growing again in early spring.

Spring cabbage are best sown in August and getting to a reasonable size before the winter then are the first ones you can eat in the spring - always a welcome treat

I have just sown some more beetroot and am hoping it will be nicely pickled in time for Christmas.

I have just sowed some beetroot, turnips, carrots, radishes and will hopefully be sowing this coming weekend, spring cabbage, lettuces, mizunas and some spring onions to grow in the greenhouse.

Can anyone let me know when do i sow onion seeds for next year?

Overwintering onions are best sown in about mid August (well for me anyway) and main crop ones in January.
