  • goku spring onion

Ended up reading about these goku giant spring onions. Apparently waitrose were selling them for a while -

    Pic here for comparison
The Waitrose Press Centre Waitrose to introduce Goku the giant spring onion

Has anyone tried them to eat or found seeds anywhere?

Never heard of them AD, but if you can get hold of some with a root plate I'm sure they could be grown on using the experimental leek technique

I don't go near waitrose very often but I think there might be one in Manchester so I will have a mooch when I go dress shopping soon.

If they were in Waitrose when I've been I would have just mistaken them for leeks

Am vaguely attracted to the idea of just having to chop one or two up rather than a whole bunch!

But is the flavour still like a spring onion?

That would be my worry, as giant veg tend to be not as sweet (or as nice) as their smaller bretheren.

I always buy far too many onion sets and plant the surplus close together (ie. almost touching)

You harvest them before they start to swell and use as, guess what - giant spring onions!
