    Hi All,

Has anyone ever successfully grown ginger?

I picked some up from B&Q the other day and am going to give it a go in the greenhouse.

I have heard it may be a bit of a no goer but any advice would - as always - be much appreciated.

    Hi Frana

I bought ginger from B&Q earlier in the year and planted it when it began to sprout. It's now living happily in a pot at a bright windowsill and is approximately 5" tall. The top leaf is just starting to unfurl. I've never grown it before but I'm pleased with it so far.

There's a Sticky Thread in the Herb Bed with loads of info on growing your own ginger. I'd have imported it here, but I haven't got the hang of how to do it yet! Hope you find it useful.

I read somewhere (my Vegetable Expert book maybe...?) that ginger can be panted from what you have in your kitchen - cut about 5cm of it off, plant in soil leaving the top 1cm poking out, and water and care for until it grows... sounds simple, does it work?

Frana, have a look at this. We had a go at growing Ginger last year to different degrees of success.
