    Frost protection for potted plants

    Some folk wrap their outdoor plant pots with bubble wrap, or similar, to help protect the roots from freezing throughout the winter.
    Is there any merit in lining a plant pot with bubble wrap, before filling with soil and planting it up? Just wondering in case I put a fruit tree into a pot sometime soon!

    I wouldn't have thought so. It's the air trapped in the bubble wrap that provides the insulation so surely it's better on the outside to keep the frost away from the pot.

      But if its to stop the soil from freezing.... And if it was already inside the pot, I'd never overlook wrapping them up again

        never tried it,you would loose some compost romm,also would the plants roots pierce it,would maybe better to give 2 or 3 coats of bubble wrap,a bit of old duvet under the bubble wrap,just a guess,
        sigpicAnother nutter ,wife,mother, nan and nanan,love my growing places,seed collection and sharing,also one of these
