Frost forecast - Beans not ready...

    Frost forecast - Beans not ready...

    What do I do? I know frost will damage the foliage, but, will it damage the beans/seeds? Some of the pods are starting to go pale and look almost ready but some still seem 'fresh' although the seeds are full size.
    Do I need to lift the plants and put them in the greenhouse or cover them with fleece to carry on growing?

    If you are sure there will be a frost you could pull up the plants by the roots and hang them in a garage or shed or such like. They will continue to dry off as the foliage dries. If you can get them to the limp-but-not-crisp stage like this you can dry them to crispness indoors on newspaper.

      Fleece 'em - it won't (shouldn't be!) too severe this time of year. Toby covered this in, erm, another mag

        Pretty sure we already had a frost this week - the edges of the leaves all look a bit caught.
        Anyway, one site is forecasting it for tonight, and another site saying tomorrow night, so seems fairly imminent!

        Lol @ Pisk, i don't buy A N Other mag
        I can fleece the wigwams, but the plants on the big frame will have to come up.

          I'm planning on fleecing too- also over my cherry toms which look like they've already has a slight nip

            I missed it because it only lasted 20 mins, apparently, but I'm told we had SNOW yesterday! Is this true Aberdeenshire Grapes, or am I being wound up?!

              Fleece? Frost?
              Good lord: it's still 21c here, daytimes at least. And we've had no rain for over 2 months now (one shower: that doesn't count)

                    in italy at the moment and it's in the high 20's low 30's..... If my beans get zapped back home, beep and oh well. I have a lot that still need to dry like you Sarz....fingers crossed as I'm further south that they'll be ok

                        Panic over, for now... Forecast has been updated, it won't dip below 7ºc now, til Tuesday and then it might be down to 5ºc. Thank goodness because I only fleeced the wigwams, didn't have time to lift the ones on the frame. They seem a bit closer to ready than the ones on wigwams, so I might get them up and hung in the garage over the weekend anyway.
