  • Found a use for marrows

Love growing courgettes I try all the different colours and shapes.
Prefer the yellow gold rush types.
Often the little devils hide under the leaves and when I find them they are half way to a marrow.

I had one this week end, a whopper.
So took out the middle, seeds etc. Diced into approx 1 inch cubes and popped in my mince curry once it was boiling.
It was superb, soaked up all the lovely curry juices. Next time I would peel it but the skin peeled off once boiled.

A good use for a marrow.
    I have seen reference to
    1) Stuffing them with mince.
    2) Stuffing them with sugar and making some suspect beverage out of them.

Any one got any other good uses for a marrow. ( No dodgy jokes please ).

We had stuffed marrow last night! I've also made marrow, ginger and orange jam before.

I made a carrot cake style cake today, although it used up a measly 250g of the club that I dragged in from the garage fridge. The rest I chopped into cubes, drizzled with oil, salt, paprika and chilli flakes and bunged in the oven with the cake. Left them until they'd shrivelled - et voila - oven dried courgettes. They're not bad, but think they need longer at a lower temp. Gonna make the marrow and ginger jam tomorrow I think. And maybe some chutney.

My grandmother used to make marrow rum, she cut the end off and scopped out the seeds then packed it with sugar. The whole thing was then placed in the leg of a stocking (hopefully washed) and a container placed underneath. If ferments naturaly without yeast and soon starts dripping into the container. She stopped making it after an unfortunate incident at the womens institue.

Hello. DD has raised three marrows to maturity - she had a case of the Gromits over them! Two strated to go a bit dodgy on the end so we picked them, sliced them into rings, brushed with oil and baked them for 20m or so, then added a cooked mince filling and mashed potato topping and everyone demolished them
Is there anything that isn't made better by half an hour pottering in the veg patch?
