  • Feeling much more encouraged!

It's amazing what a few dry days can do for both plants and morale! Of course it's not going to last, if the weather forecast is to believed, but we've had little rain here since Saturday and I'm amazed at how well my tomato plants are doing. They're tough bu88ers, aren't they?! A couple have kicked the bucket, but the rest seem in remarkably good shape given the circumstances. A bit of scorch (I think that's all it is) and slightly weather beaten but they are hanging in there and even look like they are trying to produce flowers. My newly sown beetroot is sprouting up, as are my radishes. I'm hopeful about my snack size carrots. My windowsill herbs are thriving, the mixed salad leaves are looking promising and I've got a few strawberry plants in a clearance sale that I have high hopes for. Even the cat's catnip plant, that was completely flattened, is sprouting fresh new leaves. Long may it continue!

Me too! I agree, long may it continue...
A weed is a plant that has mastered every survival skill except for learning how to grow in rows

there is signs of a little improvement, new growth on runner beans looks better in colour, shallots have put a bit of size on,it's the poor squashes, and our sons ones, that are still on death row, have got more brassicas coming through as they meant to,also new sowings of climbing beans and squash, the healthiest looking plants at the lottie's are the peas, sown more yesterday, hope looms on the horizon,am just looking at this year as,every little is a bonus

I totally agree - I'd almost admitted defeat with my cucumbers the remaining surviving couple had been sulking and doing nowt much for the past few weeks. They've perked up no end the past few days. However its chucking it down again now

3 days of sun and warmth meant that everything went nuts, now it's cold, wet and miserable again - I'm sulking, never mind the veg!

Only had about a day and a half of sun here, but all my outdoor sown seedlings seemed to suddenly double or triple in size, it was almost as if they realised the sun wouldn't last long, so made the most of it.

But have picked up well these last few days. Over wintering Onions a total disaster
