  • Favourites and why?

    Good afternoon all,

I was just wondering what's everyones number 1 favourite thing to grow and why?

    Thanks

In my experience of growing easy, unadventurous veg its got to be radishes. They are pretty much guaranteed to grow, minimal requirements, quick to grow so good succession and of course they taste really good

I think it would be beetroot, as for me it always grows well. Also it lasts ages when pickled

Very difficult question to answer as everything grown by my good self tastes far better than bought produce.
If I had to pick just one then..... Oh I can't, it wouldn't be fair on my other crops

        I love to grow everything

Tomatoes! The taste of a homegrown tomato, warm from the sun, can't be equalled by anything you buy in the shops.

I agree with VC. Tomatoes are the quintessential summer veg to me. Abundant, sun ripened fruits on the vine are such a great sight to behold. Although I also love growing other vegetables, I don't anticipate their harvest as much I do with toms.

Strawberries or Raspberries, home grown fruit like all produce is far superior to anything you can get from a supermarket. I like all my produce though otherwise I wouldn't grow it...

I look forward to everything that is just coming into season, and at that moment it is my favourite thing, ask me again in a months time it'll be runner beans!!!
I'm only here cos I got on the wrong bus.

aha!! Just re-read thread title and it says "favourites and why"...

                    So definitely,
...Tomatoes for all the reasons already stated..
...Chillies, for their colourful beauty on the plant and their multiple uses..
...Garlic...you can't beat that good feeling you get when you pull it up and see a good sized split harvest.
....Carrots...so much tastier than shop bought ones...

and then there is strawberries, raspberries, onions....I could be here for quite some time
I dream of a better tomorrow, where chickens can cross the road and not be questioned about their motives....

                    ...utterly nutterly

Some brillaint answers here and giving me lots of insperation!

Darcyvuqua : I totally agree! Chillis are one of my all time favourites!

Veggiechicken : I have never grown tomatoes before, but I think I am going to try my hand at some cherry toms!

You've never met Mr Flea Beetle, then!! I've sowed five or six rows this year and only eaten half a dozen. The slugs and FBs have had the rest!

Melons. They fill the garden and house with scent and can be tricky outside.
Tomatoes - better taste, more varieties, warm from the sun.

I have 4 different varieties of cherry toms this year, the list though is endless. They burst in your mouth like a sweet juicy widgedy grub!!!
