i planted purple top milan turnips about june, they were fine the swede needed more room i think, so they are still very small, but i'm gonna try transplanting them and see what happens, cos they aren't eatable yet lol .... i would put some fertilizer in

but i know nowt lol

thanks linda,will put the turnips in i think.I grew some swede in a tub last year,its still there, not very big at all.if i have more space later on i'll put more swede in.

I'd not put fertiliser in personally, or you may get alot of top growth and little root growth. Unless you use a specific root veg fertiliser which is high in phosphorus.

Don't think its a good idea to trasnsplant turnips, BUT

then, what do I know, someone may have a different opinion.

Do you mean that sowing turnips in June would be too late? Not at all - you can sow turnips up to July (according to my quick glance in the Organic Catalogue). Might be a tad on the late side for swede, though.
