  • Digging up and replanting

    Hi Grapes,

    Hope we are all well.

Just a quick question regarding the feasibility of digging up my onion sets and garlic and replanting elsewhere? I planted both back at the start of March and they are growing fantastic, long green stems and looking great. Problem is i've planted them [without thinking] in the only part of my garden that gets full sun most of the day. I'm planning on growing a large pumpkin/squash bed this year[my 7month old daughter loves the stuff] and understand full sun is most favourable for these.

Is it a viable option to dig up onions and garlic at this stage and move them down the garden to a different area?

As always, any ideas or advice greatly appreciated.

I'd leave them where they are. Your pumpkin won't be ready to be planted out till end of May or early June, and the onions and garlic should be about ready to be harvested before it gets big enough to swamp them.

Words of wisdom there VL ^^^ I wouldn't move them either if you can avoid it.

And even when your pumpkins do go in, they won't be fully 'huge' until after the garlic and onions are mostly out.
