  • digging in the rain?

i'm itching to get out in the garden to make my raised bed, i'd intended digging the plot where i wanted to do it either today or tomorrow but it's started raining and the forecast says it's due to rain all weekend

is there any point in starting digging in the rain? i know it'll make the work harder but other than that is it ok to do it?

Ideally not, as wet soil compacts as you tread on it...more of a pain still is mud stuck to the roots of the weeds.

yet...a gardener has to do what a gardener has to do!

If you do dig in the Rain or Wind do it facing the weather not with your back to it.

Its an only gardners way of protecting your back....

thanks for that advice, i've never heard that before but it makes sense

i'll just be really annoyed if i can't do it this weekend, OH is away and daughter is at her grandparents so i've got no interruptions

I had to do some digging this weekend and found the rain had really helped to break down the soil. I was fortunate that I didn't have to work as the rain was hammering down but the moisture was a definite benefit.
