  • Cucumbers - Indoors or outdoors - Does it matter?

Does it matter if you plant all your cucumbers indoors in a greenhouse, if some are listed as outdoor varieties?

I have the following cucumbers and really have more space in the greenhouse than I will have outdoors -
    Lemon Crystal
    Picolino
    Bush Champion
    Long White
    Marketmore
    Telegraph.

Also aren't they likely to do better in the greenhouse as it will be consistently warmer?

I am growing Crystal lemon, long white and market more and I know they are okay for outside! Dont know about the others! I think that any of them will do better in the GH than outside but.... Dont know if any will NOT do outside! Good luck ( my first time for cukes)

I too am growing marketmore and crystal lemon, although I have put mine into Morrisons flower buckets, then into a tomato tent until this blasted wind dies down.

I was told they dont like drafty conditions, and this seems to be bourne out by my expierience last year. I had 2 Burpless, one in the far corner of the GH and one by the door, and the one in the far corner did soooo much better

You can grow outside ones inside but you'll be lucky to do much with indoor ones outside. I've grown Crystal Lemon / Apple loads of times and find that the skin is thinner when grown inside.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

I have grown Markermoore Cumcumbers outdoors with some degree of success, - I think Telegraph is an indoor variety. My courgettes are growing fast even outdoors, but maybe Courgettes are more hardy than cucumbers.

I've grown Marketmore inside my greenhouse and out in the same year for the last three years. The insiders always did really well keeping me in cucumbers for months with just two plants. The outsiders probably gave 4 cucumbers at the most so I recommend you put them inside, especially if you have more room there. This year they are all going inside.

I had about four or more maybe slightly more from a marketmore cucumber plant, but they were large ones. But they would have done better indoors, I agree.

Had a good year with marketmore last year with about four plants outside and had enough to make some pickle. Haven't heard of the crystal lemon ones before, what are they like, the name is lovely?
                    Slowly takes it!
