  • Crops that make you smile..

Well apart from the spuds, it's been a brilliant season this year & is still continuing. Just thought I'd share some Toms that make me smile every time I look at them. Hope you have felt the same from your harvest.

Every time I furtled in the tattie pots and came out with enough for a boiling, I was happy. Went from mid June until September without having to buy any so had a happy summer.
Sad now as the super crop of runner beans is coming to an end.
But will soon be happy as the winter cabbages are hearting up nicely

Courgettes and squash for me this year. I can never have too many courgettes - whatever others may say. The sheer joy of seeing them grow from little finger size one day to meal size the next. Also, the fun of rummaging around under the leaves, looking for the little tearaways. As for the squashes, my first real year growing them, the shapes, sizes, textures - such wonderful variety and colours, glowing amongst the foliage. I'll be growing lots more next year.
However, there's one veggie that is guaranteed to make me smile, everytime I see it. It doesn't just make me smile, it makes me titter (Ooh er Missus). It is of course, my old friend, Tromba d'Albenga. Goggle it and make yourself smile

I have 9 different types of squash and they make me smile a lot. They are beeeyyoooooootiful. Though they looked smaller on the plot than they do crammed into my little flat! (My plot is nearly twice the size of the hutch I live in!).

Watching my saffron come up is making me squeak in excitement. To be honest, anything that grows and gives me something to eat makes me smile. And possibly do the veggie-glee-dance...

For me it has to be the squash as well, the sweet dumpling look so good, but it all made me smile, even the failures!!

I grow it up a wigwam and it is just so rude, the way it hangs down and it has enormous flowers compared to some of the others

My sweet peas made me smile... as did my late mange tout (just picked some for tea!) and the heavy Crown Prince Squash I've picked today also (4kg). Totally agree with VC about courgettes - there is something magic about them how quickly they grow.
