  • Courgettes in Pots

    Hi

My in-laws are growing courgettes in pots but the flowers keep falling off. Can anyone tell me the reason for this.

I am growing them in pots and at the lotty and mine are doing fine. They are from the same seeds as mine.

    Many thanks
    Bye

Enough water? That's happened to me in hot weather (not a problem this year!) - blossom hasn't set if a bit underwatered.

I would think the pots would need to be quite big for a courgette. 11" perhaps? Much smaller than that and I don't think the plant will be able to sustain the fruit.

Mine are doing well in half-barrels, two to a barrel. I had one in a small pot that i didn't get round to transplanting, and it stated making baby courgettes even though it was so small. I've planted it in a barrel now, the baby is still growing so it's managing but still small- the ones with more room are producing lots- they certanly prefer more space.
Courgettes like a lot of water and nutrients, so perhaps they aren't getting ehough if the pots aren't big enough?
