  • Courgette Male & Female....Yeh.

I wasn't sure where to post this so please move. It's my first year growing courgette and must say am I not only pleased with the amount of fruits they produce but what fantastic flowers.Yes, I have male & female at the same time. This one is growing in a dustbin & the flowers are over 8" from tip to tip. I am sure this is normal but it's a first for me.....

Well done you. They are beautiful flowers, aren't they. Also edible - I think there are a few recipes on the Vine.

I thought the same, they only last a few days, nevertheless beautiful while they are out.

Trouble with mine is they've stopped producing fruit, but I've got masses of male flowers! I'm sure they're too restricted in builders buckets, so it's in the ground again next year for a glut! Well done BM.

            wow.

Mine were in 9 inch pots, forgot about them - and they've fruited, but fell over and kind of re-grown. Took them out the pots last night and they were severly pot bound, felt a bit guilty! Defo doing mine in the ground next year too.

i planted mine in old car tyres so i could put manure into them first - most definately have a glut! it's official. however it is forcing me to come up with some new ways of cooking them - last night i made an onion and yellow courgette quiche for tea and it was quite yummy (even though i say so myself!)

Yep, my wife does the same - she recently made sping onion, carrot, courgette and cheese muffins - really nice savoury snack and great for our little 'un!

(courgette chocolate cake is nice too, stays really moist due to the fruit, but you can't taste them!)

Courgette & Red Onion cooked in a chicken supreme sauce is a lovely addition to a meal.
