cool peppers

I have spent most of the morning checking all my pepper/chilli plants as I found 3 peppers (assorted),that had rotted on the plants, we normally do well with the peppers, but this year the winter started at the end of august(yesterday and today are the warmest days since july),we lost all the melons to the cold weather too, i have never known it get so cold, so early. the onions have been lifted, and will be blitzed in the blender and frozen as they are still very "green" and even in the greenhouses there has not been much warmth to dry them out, and they were starting to rot in the ground, i had to throw about 30-40% away, so not a good end to what has been a better year, still there is always next year, i see Thompson and morgan are selling "tomtato" for next year, cherry toms on the top and tatties on the roots, good, but dear, i don't think I will be buying, unless he lottery comes up.....
