    Coffee Grounds

    Hi

    I have just got 3 bags of used coffee grinds / grounds from starbucks for free and wondering which plants I can use it on.
    I grow in pots as my ground has too much rubble in it (although in the new year i am hoping to build some raised beds). The plants I have in pots are:-
    Strawberries, herbs, garlic, spring onions, and bulb flowers.
    In the new year and beyond I am hoping to grow :- potatoes, tomatoes, carrots, and whatever else the catapilars don't like but grow well in tubs.
    Can I use the coffee on any of these or should I just mix it into my soil ready to use next year??

    Any help much appreciated (please excuse my spelling)

      I think that used coffee can be really good around blueberries

        Anything that likes acid.... blueberries, rhododendrons, hippies..... umm useful plants... err... potatoes, especially if you're on anythign chalky or only get a short rotation set so spuds have to go in after brassicas with only one or two sets between....

              I have used coffee grounds on blueberries and it worked really well.
              I have also used them as slug control and they were not good at all.

                I used coffee grounds when I sowed my carrot and parsnips this year. It apparently disguises the smell and confuses the carrot fly. Not sure how effective it would be on it's own but I used them in conjunction with netting and raised beds and I had no problems with carrot fly at all this year.

                  Hmm I asked at a local cafe with one of those fancy coffee machines about coffee grounds, they said they are not allowed to give them away because of health and safety.....??

                    I tried grinds as a slug repellant but rain washes it away. So unless you have continuous supply I wouldn't bother! Will try around my blueberries though

                      I found it a fabulous slug repellent. I placed a thick continuous line around all my veg and flower beds, and in some of my pots and was over the moon with the results. Yes you do have to top it up, but then you have to do the same with pellets etc. I also put them into the compost heap, and they are supposed to be good on patchy lawns - but I haven't tried the latter.
                      A good beginning is half the work.
                      Praise the young and they will make progress.

                          free coffee grounds

                          i get mine from the local student union... and starbucks... and cafe nero...

                          whoever you asked probably just couldn't be bothered to save them for you... or wanted to keep 'em for themselves!!!!

                          i put mine on my lilies... and also round my fruit beds...
