  • Coffee Grinds for Veg gardens...

Any do's and don'ts that people are aware of?

I know it's all about the nitrogen but can you put dircetly onto soil in veg gardens or is it best via your compost?

    Thanks in advance....

I thought that was used to prevent slugs, I didn't realise it could be a fertiliser.

I've always put it straight on. I rinse the coffee press and throw the lot onto the onion patch/nearby veg container. Never had problems as far as I can see!

I sieve it or put it straight onto onion beds - great stuff.

I've used several bags of the stuff Starbucks give away around my beans plants when I planted them out. completely surrounded the stem and where the supports went in the ground. So far, touch wood, not a sign of slimer damage. Though, at the risk of jinxing things, the slimers do seem to have taken a bit of a holiday so far this year - i've evne got lettuces growing in the ground! that the first time ever!

            Cats don't like grounds either.

Can I ask why? All the acidity and oils have long gone from the grinds, as they end up in the drink! All that's left its the wet mess.
