    Clearing out old beds

    What are/is everyone doing regarding clearing out their old beds? I've cleared out my tatties and put new carlingfords in.......cleared out carrots/parsnips etc and need to dig it over......still got sweetcorn/squash/toms on the go. Know about rotation, but has anyone got any ideas re: composting ect? dexterdog

    Hi Dexter, you could try growing some 'green manure' in your beds as opposed to leaving them empty or just dig in some manure depending on what you plan to grow there next (probably not where you want to grow carrots as it can cause forking etc.). I don't do much myself, only have a teeny veg. patch to look after!

      Thanks for that SueA - my plot is small as well, so not sure if a green manure would be the answer, although what could I try and would it grow fast enough if I planted it now? dexterdog

        Did I read somewhere that Autumn is the best time to sow green manures?

        Hope so... I bought 4 packets of mustard for the lottie!

              I was looking at packs of green manure in Mr. Middletons garden shop today and the packs were one euro fifty cents each which would be about �1.20 to �1.30 each so you did very well Shortie.

                I did hope any mustard would do, otherwise I'll be having mustard seasoned sandwiches the rest of my life!
