  • Chilli peppers and red peppers not appearing

I sowed some chilli peppers and red peppers atleast 4 wks ago. They are in a warm position inside in a propagator etc but Ive had nothing come through so far. I wouldnt ordinarily worry but when Ive been to fetes, car boot sales etc recently Ive seen them for sale and they are about 5/6" high. Am I now too late to try for another batch ? Last year I just gave up with my peppers as they grew so late that they never ripened, my chillis however were still fab even close to Xmas.

I would have expected them to germinate by now, but it can depend on the variety but i think it usually take 2-3 weeks for seeds to germinate.

It should be fine to plant some more seeds now.

I had chilis in a pot on my kitchen windowsill and they took just over a month to come up, so don't give up on them yet... I did and sowed new ones in a tray in the greenhouse and these came up in about two weeks, just as well I like chilis really

I think it was probably that the pot on the windowsill dried out quicker and my watering was a bit sporadic, I tend to water things in the greenhouse more regularly...

I sowed tons about 4-6 weeks ago. Some are 3 inches high and some are only just coming through. I wouldn't write them off quite yet.

You can never tell with seed, some just take there time. I sowed 4 squash seeds, one came up 3 weeks ago one came up on monday and another today. Don't know if the 4th will put in an appearance. So never give up on seeds, you just don't know.

Thanks for that everyone. I will leave them alone and hope for the best. Saying that I have seen a tiny sign of life, one of my chocolate habaneros is poking its little head out of the soil now so fingers crossed the rest will join in soon.
