  • Chard seed

    Hi,

I harvested my chard seed that I bought from realseeds.co.uk (not F1) about 6 weeks ago.Does anyone know when it will be ready to plant? I'd like to do it soon to have a winter harvest, but not sure how long it takes before it is ready to use.

    thanks a lot

were they ready? Mine aren't anywhere near dry? And are still on the plant.
    Try germinating them now.

Sounds optimistic for a winter harvest if the seed isn't sown yet but it may depend on where you are. I sow my chard in the spring then harvest spring and autumn. People say it's very hardy but I find it doesn't survive a proper winter outdoors but, in milder winters I pick off the same plants in spring.

Can't help with when your seeds will be ready though as it depends when they're fully dry.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

Chard needs to establish for a while, I think this winter cropping is optimistic. Next Spring or late winter would be a yes though. Spinnach would be more likely to crop in the alloted timescale if that helps at all.
