  • Cabbage Whites

Is it just me or are there hardly any cabbage whites about this year? I really don't recall seeing any yet...or is it still a bit early? I'm sure my brassicas should be being shredded by now...

All these clouds have silver linings.

We had a lot emerge early in that warm March, so less food about, and they will then have been knocked back by the wet weather making it difficult for them to be on the wing. There's been a lot less white fly about, too, this year.

No Vince...I've not seen any yet.
just biblical plagues of slugs and mice with piss-istent rain....even a four month cloud must have a silver lining.

beat me to it with silver lining line

I've only seen 2so far this year. Both were this week.
One was in my garden and the other was at market, flying around the veg plants!

Too cold for butterflies this year, and I've not had any pea moth either yet, which is great

We had them in the warm weather (before Easter) but none since... But nature compensates by sending us 1000s of snails.

A few small caterpillers on my cabbages, caulifower and calebrase at the moment (at least until I squashed them) and a few egges too, but not nearly the plague levels of recent years.

I have had a catepillar (sp?) squashing session on my cabbages, which I have now uncovered as I am harvesting them.

Not seen many cabbage whites (writing very quietly!) but we do have a few butterflies and moths around, but not many.

Much as I love our Aussie cousins, they're welcome to as many cabbage whites as possible!!

So what does it mean for future years? Would this year seriously knock them back so we get fewer next year? Saw a couple of red admirals at the lottie today, but they're not nearly as harmful.
