My Golden Acre cabbages are starting to heart up nicely and I wonder if I should remove the lower leaves to avoid too much slug damage. But that said, the lower leaves are shading the roots.....any advice?

You could cut the lower leaves off & lay them under the plant then hopefully if any slugs do appear, they will eat the leaves leaving your plant alone................it's only my theory.

if you do remove the lower leaves the slugs will just start on the next lot of leaves. You need to tackle the slug problem. I use slug pellets sparingly.

I never remove any leaves that aren't diseased.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?
