  • Butternut squash - so chuffed

Apologies but this is a bit nerdy, I'm so chuffed that finally after waiting all summer I have at least one butternut squash . I started with 3 Hunter plants, went down to 2 fairly quickly due to possibly powdery mildew or another disease . Just when I had given up hope of ever getting a fruit to set on my final plant, today I see one has and is growing well. So I am very chuffed...it will be nurtured like a baby lol .

Nerdy I know, but I bet others out there have experienced the joy of seeing something like this after giving up all hope .

Not nerdy at all Somersetveggie - there is something very special about butternut squash plants - loads of waiting and anticipation but it is worth it in the end. I grew 8 plants of Hunter and 8 of Hawk this year - one plot did better than the other but I am chuffed with any that I get. I love eating bns!
Whooops - now what are the dogs getting up to?

Brill Somersetveggie! I'm the same! I've managed two of a fair size. The plant was from seed I saved out of a BNS I bought from the supermarket!

Its soooo satisfying. I'm planning on doing more types of squash next year including Hasta la Pasta and Jack be little!

Thanks guys, I don't feel like such a dork now .

I bought my 3 as young plants and paid a fair bit as I got them mail order, so this one squash will be expensive in the scheme of things lol. I shall have to think very carefully about how I cook it to savour it...

Next year I shall grow them from seed myself (already bought the seeds).
