  • Brussel sprout tops

My mum-in-law was raving about some brussel sprout tops she had bought at a local Farmer's market. She said they were delicious. I've never heard of cooking and eating the tops of sprouts. When would you harvest them? What impact would it have on the yield of a sprout plant? Anybody help?

I firstly harvested last years sprouts from the bottom upwards when they were a decent size. When you take the tops, I seem to remember it makes the sprouts towards the top of the plant mature quicker. I've only been successful once, so wait for someone with a bit more experience to come along rather than take my word for it j611 but I can assure you the tops were delicious once I got past the white fly. Welcome to the Vine by the way

We had sprout tops as spring greens when I was a boy

I eat mine when the sprouts are finished or blown. Stir fried with chilli ginger and soy.

              Thanks to you all

Thank you all for your replies. I love the idea of stir frying them with ginger and chilli.
