  • Broad Beans

My early broad bean plants had started to go yellow so I pulled the whole lot up yesterday and removed the pods. The plants will be composted.

I sat and shelled the pods this evening and finally finished. A total weight of just under 7lbs.

    I that good for 3x 20ft rows?

I'll blanch them and stick them in the freezer tomorrow and that'll give a fair few meals

I had a 6 foot double row which yielded about 1 lb I have no idea how good or bad that is though!

You didn't pull up the roots did you???

No! I left most if the roots in for the good they do.

Do the roots stay in to compost down?

That is a very low yield. Query, few pollinating insects? How may pods per plant approx? Most pods have about 4 to 5 beans inside.
