  • Broad beans - too late for this year?

Basically, exactly that question. Am I too late to put in a few broad beans for a late crop this year? They would be in open ground, but I have a plastic tent I can put over them on the plot, or I can put them in the back garden and use fleece as necessary.

    Worth a try or not?

And when should I be putting in seeds for getting a head start on next year - again straight into the ground, or else into pots here at home for transplanting to the plot before the heavy winter comes. I think I still have a couple of AquaDulce Claudia seeds for this, or may have to source more seeds of that variety.

Broadies are a cool weather crop. Sow March or October (ish, depending on your area). They are also hardy (well, Aquedulce is) so don't need protection

Thanks two sheds, I was afraid I was too late for any more harvesting this year. But I'll put in a few for next spring next month alright - that's worked well the years I remembered!
