Default Bolted garlic

I have grown two varieties of garlic ths winter (sowed them late Nov), a purple variety which I planted from last years crop, this looks fine. The second variety, San Marco (I think) is a white garlic bulb, this appears to have bolted. I pulled the flower stalks off. What has gone wrong, did I plant them too early? Should I just lift them now? Any advice would be much appreciated.
