  • Bird of prey models?

Anyone know where you can buy those plastic models of birds of prey? I fancy one to keep away the avian friends in the garden at some times.
I've searched, but come up with nothing.

Please ignore everything I say, I make it up as I go along, not only do I generally not believe what I write, I never remember it either.

You mean this kind of thing :-

Buy Bird of Prey Decoys - Shop at Scotland's leading suppliers - Scott Country

    Spotted these on sale :-

There's some on ebay as well.

That's exactly what I mean, £25 for one though, might try to find one at a boot sale

Anyone tried one and do they work?

Decoy, that was the word I was looking for.

Used to use them to try and scare pigeons, useless after a week, went back to the shotgun.

However I have heard the new ones that flap their wings in the breeze work a lot better.

Well, the Owl in our local agricultural store has a revolving head and reflective eyes for £20 - the kids love it!

Only one we've ever had is a duck for the garden pond and that was only to help keep it free from ice overwinter.

You could try an agricultural merchant, if you've got one locally.

But they don't work, not after the first few days, the local birds soon suss out that they aren't real.

The only thing I've seen that is any use was on a cord at the top of a pole, it flew a bit like a kite and actually moves around with the wind, but I haven't a clue where you'd get one of them ... and it'd probably frighten all the 'good' birds too, which isn't the best thing to do when they're nesting.
