  • Big leaves,no fruit.

ah we having a good spell of weather eh,kids got pool coming tomorow so that spells rain haha anyways,i have a few strawberry plants doing quite well,2 plants to a hanging basket, (2 baskets)i have already got 3 young plants from runners for next year ,and have a nice little crop for the kids to munch on.One of the plants although producing lush big leaves has no signs of stemming with flowers. I am sure there is no insect damage or the like, although i do have to rub off the tiny aphids every other day.

Is there any reason why strawberry plants produce leaves without fruit?.

    cheers,

    jase.

Too much nitrogen, not enough potash.... that holds for almost anythign you want fruit from, if there's leaves (and lots of them) looking great......generally too much nitrogen.....

Yes just enjoying itself and not inclined to reproduce. One bed of mine is in very poor soil and the plants only have a few leaves each, but the amount of strawberries is overwhelming. Just be a little wary of allowing runners if the plants are in their first year as it is a drain on their energy.

they will produce in their first year, but are better in their 2nd and 3rd years.

Have you been feeding your plants? What with?

            sorry late with the reply,

Well 2 plants are in hanging baskets with ordinary compost one of the plants has fruit but the other just leaves.Whats the best feed for strawberry plants ?
Also the leaves on the plants that have fruit have drooped quite a lot,is this normal ?
