| You can dig in compost anytime really; it's mostly done in the autumn because that is when there is no veg growing. I've just dug a load in where my potatoes were , it's easier to dig the compost in when the soil is loose after digging up spuds. Carrots and parsnips won't form good tap roots in freshly composted soil though, again this is why autumn digging is preferred.
