  • B&Q Withdraw Tomato Food

Chain withdraws plant food range - Environment News - AOL News

This might explain some problems that people have had this summer that were not attributed to using contaminated manure.

Good grief! And that's their organic range?!
Thank goodness I stuck with the Power Feed from Reeds Nurseries, which is imported from Australia

That's interesting. RustyLady lost all her greenhouse tomatoes last year, and I said it looked like they'd have weedkiller put on them.

B&Q would not manufacture the product. So it will be interesting to see who is next to withdraw their tomato feed.

Can anybody tell me which tomato food we are talking about and what it says as the link will not open for me.

It's the "B&Q Organic Living Tomato Food" and they've found it's contaminated with a herbicide so kills or seriously harms the tomato plants that it's supposed to be feeding!

                Very interesting point.

Is this chemical along the same lines as the amypro-thingy chemical that got into manure(s) recently?

Yes, from what I read it is similar but not quite so persistent. And indeed, it people had used it to spray their lawn, it would affect any mulch or compost made from the lawn clippings.

Well heres an organic tomato food tip for next year.....beg steal or borrow some hair....yes hair, yours, the cats, dogs, whatever. When you make a hole to plant the tomato into, line with this hair quite thickly. Hair contains something called KERATIN which is a protein and more importantly about 15% nitrogen but it breaks down really slowly, so providing a slow release fertilizer. Simples!

Jings, that's terrible. Thank goodness I just stuck with one of the more expensive brands.
And I think "organic" is just one of those words which is bandied about to mean anything the writer wants it to mean - or hopes the reader will see as favourable.
If they mean chemical free then they should say so - nothing to do with organic.

Perhaps they got the labels mixed up?

Yes, sometimes you have to pay more to ensure quality - we normally use Soil Association certified chicken poo pellets from Rooster.

I agree to that they should make the use of the word 'organic' more specific.

Does anyone know who makes the B&Q stuff?
