  • Aubergines - major sulk

I am having a major sulk, i had planted out the last of my thai aubergines white, green round and doll and NOT ONE has germinated I am now giving up, i have sown and resown my seeds since march and am throwing in the towel, they were sown in propogators that were on a light southfacing table in front of a window

    What did i do wrong????????

Were they in heated prop? I sow ours in similar conditions for toms/peppers, etc in heated prop no problems...how many did you sow. Is the seeds germination rate a problem? Did you get them off me? I had some thai aubs yr before last and they germinated but in low rates.

Hi manda, yes I think they were off you as you generously sent me some aubs and cues. I am glad it was only a bad batch and not me as the propogator was heated and everything, to be honest i was getting a bit disheartned as i did not know what i was doing wrong. I am glad your recent batch has done well this year, if you have any spares for next year, please let me know if you would like to swap them for anything?

Hi DED, sorry the aubs didn't germinate - I had some grow but maybe only a 30% rate, wasn't sure if it was me or the seed as we only usually sow 2 or 3 seeds at a time! So its not really a big enough quantity to tell.

Sorry for sending you duff stuff...I've some greek ones Tigrina - if you'd like some of the seeds left (there's a fair few still even after sending Janek loads!)?

Original Touch Aubergine Tigrina - Tsakoniki

        PM me.

Thats ok manda, thank you for the kind offer, but i think i will not be growing any this year as it is a little too late. Let me know how you get on with the tigrina, i looked at the link and it sounds like a good aub to grow and it is something that i will def be interested in for next year.

          kindest regards

You will find some in garden centres, not the same I know but fun all the same. 1st year here we got an aubergine 'Black Bell' from Focus, planted it in the g/h border beginning of June, got loads of very tasty purple aubs from it. Its a variety mainly grown by market gardeners, I've not seen seed for it but would like to try some.

For next year, you could try germinating on damp kitchen roll, sealed in a sandwich bag - that's how I do aubergines
