    Anyone know what this is?

    Not sure what this is but I've got several clumps growing in my herb bed. At first I thought it was some sticky willy but it doesn't feel like right. Any ideas?

    Does look like Sticky Willy (love that name!) Maybe its too young to be sticky?
    Does it smell of anything?

      Iirc no smell and not even remotely sticky.

        Goosegrass, sticky willie, or cleavers. It's growing like mad at the moment. The young shoots don't always feel sticky.

            Well, I'm not an expert but I've never seen sticky willy growing in a clump like that. If it's in the herb bed, might it be sweet woodruff?

              It could easily be Sweet Woodruff - I often get them confused when they are smaller. Ruddy stuff is a pain - I'm ashamed to say, I treat it like a weed.

                Sweet Woodruff is in flower at the mo - lots of tiny white flowers with a delicate scent. The leaves are more robust than the ones in the photo and form an 8 pointed "star". (Yes, I've just been to check mine )

                  I think I'm leaning toward cleavers, too, VC. I'd bin it anyway, personally, but if you leave it a week, you'll know for certain.

                    Apologies in advance for going slightly off topic but if it is cleavers crush a handful and rub it onto arthritic joints; the relief is almost instant (does make your skin green though..)

                        When I was young my mate and I went out and collected a huge amount of cleavers and stuck it all together into a human shape and gave it to my mum as a present.
                        35 years on she still can't get rid of the stuff...

                          Now THAT is very funny, PP! It was my mum's b'day at the weekend - why didn't I think of a present like that?

                          BTW, we are obvs. more refined than you lot - it's known as 'sticky Susan' round here.
