Am trying Mayan Gold potatoes for the first time as my other half, Mr Chef, wanted to try them. Anyone else growing them - how are they doing - harvested any yet or is it still early?

Yes - I'm also doing M Gold - my 'luxury' purchase along with Salad Blue.

They were a late start so no harvest yet - but really looking forward to this fairly new introduction - new to me anyhow.

I am growing them our super moderator Seahorse sent me some seed when the spuds that i bought from tesco's refused to start growing .
The one's that are growing have been flowering for about 10 days and will not be dug until the tops die back they are not supposed to crop very heavy so they will get every chance .
The flowers by the way are a nice deep blue they look cracking jacob marley

As JM mentions, I'm growing some too. Also Mayan Queen and Mayan Twilight. I was rather late planting, so not expecting any harvest for a while yet.

I grew some I chitted from Waitrose last year. They were great - on the small side but delish!

I'm also growing them - well one of each in a bucket (thanks to our super Mod Seahorse!) and I've had to cut the haulms off ours as all 3 Mayan varieties were starting look almost 'blighty'! Didn't want to risk that happening and it spreading. Anyway we've not checked the buckets yet, but when we do I'll report back.

I dug the Mayan Gold today because the tops were looking a bit odd from 2 roots of Mayan gold 71 spuds just under 7 pounds in weight about half of them eatable the rest will be seed for next year .
from 1 root of Mayan Queen 21 spuds just under 4 pounds in weight 15 of them golf ball size or bigger nice roun spud with pink eyes the rest seed for next year just got to try them on the dinner plate now jacob marley

Which spuds are you using as 'seed spuds', the smallest? We've not taken ours out of their containers/buckets yet - hope the slugs ain't had them. We had to take the haulms off quite early cos we thought they looked blighty, so not sure how much growing they might have done. Weather forecast is good here for the next few days, so will get them out tomorrow - what do yours taste like?

I eased one of my plants from the buckets a few days ago and the only spud I saw was about half the size of my little finger - and I've got very small hands!

Back they went for a few more weeks!

Although growing in buckets doesn't produce so many spuds per seed - this is my first year in buckets - at least they are easily manageable to ease out and see whats going on. Plus if the weather gets bad you can bring them under cover for protection without it being a backbreaking exercise if you are lucky enough to have the facility.

Do not know what they are going to be like yet but the one's i bought from tesco's early in the year were comparable to King Edwards
the small one's will be the seed for next year if i can keep them safe jacob marley

oooh - I was eyeing these up in the catalogue for next year. I almost crossed them off my list as I had 3 x 20-tuber packs and a couple experimental 5-tuber packs in mind already, not to mention the TPS experiment, and am clearly going to be overrun with spuds at this rate I never realised how much I would love growing spuds! Well, do report back!

Well i have done the taste test verdict GORGEOUS the Mayan Queen were spot on mashed and roasted in vegetable oil were beautiful very moorish .
The Mayan Gold i have only had them roasted in veg oil the same as the Queen and just as good they are without doubt the best Potato's i have ever tasted and will be on the seed list next year .
I think that they would benefit from heavy feeding with Comfrey juce is already in the milk containers waiting to do it's stuff .
As for the spuds i would recomend the to any body jacob marley
