I have recently read about using pipe lagging tube to Blanche leeks, so I was wondering if anyone had tried this method and what was the result if you did

I've not heard of using lagging for Leeks. I have used drainpipes over Leeks in the past with good results. Be careful what pipe insulation you buy, some of the more expensive stuff has insect/mouse repellent.

I use it for my long show leeks. It comes in different internal bores so is ideal for support as the leeks grow from spindly little things and gets replaced with bigger bore tubes as they grow. Eventually,the foam lagging is discarded and replaced with wrap around damp proof membrane as the exhibition leeks can grow to 3" in diameter and I haven't found a source of foam insulation with that diameter. I also use foam insulation over horizontal canes to support the flags as they grow but a more experienced grower than me told me last weekend that this can become very hot in the greenhouse and cause damage to the flags. I've used it for several years without problems mindComment

climaflex is open celled and as previously mentioned will slowly break down being exposed to the elements. Armaflex is closed cell and will last a lot longer, is harder to get and costs more - if it is a tight fit on the leeks at any point I fear it could cause issues but might be worth experimenting. Also climaflex and armaflex are brand names.

One of the reason's I did not suggest Armaflex is that it has microbial protection amongst other things. It does cost a little more and is great at what it is made for but not knowing what chemicals are in it I wouldn't put it round my plants just in case.Potty by name Potty by nature.
