I like to keep abreast of what's going on in the world of science and technology and regularly log on PhysOrg.com to get news and info that isn't normally available in the mainstream media. A recent article said that there are now some 14,000 laboratory-made additives available to food manufacturers to improve the shelf life and appearance of the stuff they sell. If ever you needed an excuse to grow you own that's it!!

Then of course there's the stuff that gets 'nuked' to prolong shelf life!

And they wonder why kids have so many allergies/ asthma/ behavioural problems.
Don't you just love the TV adverts recommending the best weaning milk for toddlers after bottle or breast feeding-trying to make you feel you're giving you children the best possible start in life- and then the everyday foods contain so much junk!. They'd be better off researching into yet another type of hair shampoo!

Read "The Feminisation Of Nature" by Deborah Cadbury, it will blow your mind !
I normally just plough my way through science books although I read them frequently, but on the cover this one had a quote from John Gribbin saying how good it was, so I suspended my disbelief and took it out from the library. It was gripping from page one, and I imagine it will grab pretty much everyone where they live...
A bit out of date, all sorts of chemicals have been banned since it was written - but not here in the UK.
There's no point reading history if you don't use the lessons it teaches.
