  • Absolutely brand new to growing my own

in fact, new to gardening in general.

I'm a professional in my early 20's, living in London. Recently moved to a new flat, and realised we have communal garden space to do whatever we want with.

Really been in the mood to start a container garden, bought a few large containers, and some lettuce, basil, chilli and radish plants.

However I realise that I've kinda started this hobby at the wrong time, being nearly september. As someone who knows very little about all this, is it too late in the year for me to be planting things? Is there anything I can plant now that will be ready this year?

    What can I sow now?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Hi and welcome.. You are right that you are limited at this stage wrt planting/sowing now to harvest this year... Might get some radish, turnip, possibly beetroot and some salad leaves... I have probably forgot something but you can start thinking about planting garlic, shallots and onions to over winter....
I dream of a better tomorrow, where chickens can cross the road and not be questioned about their motives....

Hi teefy and welcome. You can save the chilli and basil seeds until next year, unless you want to grow them indoors, but the lettuce and radish are worth trying in a container. Mixed salad leaves, rocket, pea shoots should all give you something within a couple of months.

Hello and welcome to the vine Teefy, you've had some good advice already so I'll just add Pak Choi to your sowing list.
        Location....East Midlands.

I did a list of things I am doing and thinking about for soon here - might be a few things on it not mentioned already.
While wearing your night clothes, plant cucumbers on the 1st May before the sun comes up, and they will not be attacked by bugs.
