  • The 2013 Early Tomato Sowing Thread

As in previous years, back by popular demand....

This is the early sowing and growing thread for all things Tomato

As traditional on the Vine, we are only sowing a few seeds to get us going, as most people don't have the space for 80 plants all being grown indoors through the spring.

So, get yourself a few seeds, a couple of pots, and sow some lovely tomatoes.

Report here what you are growing, how you are getting them to germinate, and any other tricks to maximise your crops. Also, photos are not only cool but welcomed and possibly drooled over.

First moon tomato day of 2011 is the 3rd of Jan.

If you want to sow yours on the correct Moon day for fruiting crops, then I'm sure someone can post the Fruit days for you...

*naysayers saying they will wait to sow is great, but start your own thread please - this is for those who want to get a few plants started off early. Thank you.

I didn't sow eighty ...oh wait, maybe I did, anyhow I'm in with Grushovka, Latah, Koralik and Togi. I am assuming they are all early bush ones...please oh wise ones, correct me if I am wrong.

I'm in this year too I have no studying to get in the way at the mo., and I'm eagerly awaiting delivery of a 'Grow Light Garden' so I (hopefully) won't even have legginess to worry about! Whoohoo!

I'm planning to start with 2 each of Auntie Madge's, Amish Paste and Purple Plum, and see how I go on - just need to 'find' the porch under the piles of junk accumulated over winter, as that's where my potting station is.

      Bring it on!

I'm in it with sweet and neat and those little grape sized jobbies as I've come to the conclusion that I'm going to try ones which don't grow 20ft high and take over the greenhouse.

When I open my new moon book tomorrow I will let you know when the next fruit day is.

So long and thanks for all the fish.........

            I have a blog http://areafortyone.blogspot.co.uk

I'd rather be a comma than a full stop.

excuse my ignorance, but could someone please explain this to me?!

I guess it is a challenge to sow and attempt to grow tomatoes now?

                thanks
