Just wondered if you have grown something for the first time that you are either pleased with or disappointed. I must say I am so chuffed with courgettes, It's my first time & definitely will not be the last. The one grown in the dustbin has been awesome, we've had loads of fruit and has grown approx 4 feet high.

Tall peas. I grew (am growing) Telephone peas and they are 6ft and more tall, had 1.5kg off them so far and more to come. The row is 8ft long but the ground was poor (previously a shrubbery) and I didn't plant/sow them densely enough and they are in partial shade so I feel that the return is amazing for the little effort put in, The pea is also great, tasty from petit pois to marrowfat size and very little pea moth damage either.
Will grow them again in preference to dwarf or standard peas. -
1st time success
My runner beans have been wonderful. Also tomatoes , beetroot, lettuce and carrots, but my purple broccoli sprouting was a disaster. Eaten away by cabbage white butterflies.Comment

First time for indoor cucumbers - after my one outdoor cucumber last year managed about 8 flowers, one short cucumber and 2 foot of growth...
I have 7(?) plants in Morrisons buckets in the new greenhouse - keep missing them, and finding them 9" long and fat!! They are over the top of the greenhouse rail and attackign the tomatoes which are crossing over from the other side <grin>
Definitely won't sow as many next year - didn't realise they would be so prolific...
Also new this year - squash Potimarron - what an enthusiastic plant! Only one large squash on it, but it looks really cute - warning, really needs LOTS of space!
Also new this year - raspberries - autumn ones (Joan J I think, and Allgold?) - had a few raspberries in summer and thought that was fun but there are a few more on the way now (very exciting...) The gooseberry bushes have grown a bit but either no fruit or they got munched :-(

courgettes. i didnt bother with them last year as i found the ones in shops bland and unexciting. however i thought wot the heck and sowed a few: black beauty and summer ball. i have been very impressed as ive had a steady supply of one every day or so. and they are a lot tastier than the shop bought ones.http://pot-to-plot.blogspot.com/ My brand spanking new plot Comment

Grew pumpkins and cabbages for the first time - never had the space before. Very impressed, pumpkins are massive and still growing and we had a cabbage glut (was a bit over enthusiastic with numbers...) but have now planted (too many?) winter cabbages too.
First time for growing celeriac too but haven't harvested any yet - they have a lot of growing to do yet if they're to be worthwhile!Comment

Blueberries.
Bought one (bluecrop) from B&Q & bluetraube from homebase 2 years ago.
Had a few berries last year but this year the bluecrop has had an amazing crop & have had a few punnets from the bluetraube although nowhere near the size or flavour of the bluecrop.
Would love to get another blueberry ,either late or early to extend the picking season.

First time for Aubergines and Peppers, im not quite sure what we are going to do we have so many peppers now, and the aubergines are growing nicely and cropping well.
Need to tackle the brassicas to eradicate the caterpillars today.Comment

Cobra climbing beans - prolific and tasty! My potatoes have been awful this year - have got some late ones in flower now, but the earlies were dreadful and the Mayan Gold just go to a lish if you put them any closer to water than in a steamer!Comment

Very pleased with Chillis ! - Jalapenos, Scotch Bonnet and Habaneros. Slow start but now all loaded with chillis, just waiting for them to ripen to their respective colours and should have a really colourful display.
Bit disappointed with tomatillos, but only because no one really liked them which was a real shame as they grew really well and produced tons of fruit.Comment

1st time courgettes for me too. Can anyone tell me when a courgette becomes a marrow? Also 1st time for butternut squash and little yellow scallops.Comment
