  • 1st pea

me again ... I ate my first peas today. I was so excited I forgot to take a picture first

It was sown direct in October (a row was, but only this one survived). The plant is horizontal as I couldn't be bothered to stake one plant.

Woohoo for peas! I had my first peas on Tuesday. Well, i picked one pod thinking it was ready and found 5 tiny little half grown peas inside. They were absolutely delicious though yum! Then 3 supremely tasty strawberries, 1 of which I gave to the boyfriend. The last 6 months of back-breaking digging was totally worth it!

At what stage do the peas form? Are they from flowers? Ours are about 2ft tall but cant see any pods.

The pea pods grow when the flowers have died jonohanson. They are really fast. One week my flowers were wilting, the next I had a full size pod! Then another week or 2 for the pod to fill and tuck in!

I also picked my first peas this week, didn't make it to the kitchen though.

Do have a confession to make though ...... what I thought were meteor peas were in fact sweetpeas and the meteor peas ended up in the space for the sweetpeas

and yes, I did label but must had a special moment at planting time

I've done exactly the same thing. My front fence was supposed to be smothered in sweet peas ... instead it has a row of 12" high pea plants with pods on
